It is a mountain range of the Southern Apennines, on the border between Basilicata and Calabria. It has one of the highest peaks in southern Italy, covered with snow for large periods of the year. From its peaks, over 2200 meters high above sea level, the Tyrrhenian coasts of Maratea, Praia a Mare and Belvedere Marittimo to the west, the Ionian coast from Sibari to Metaponto to the east are easily captured by the naked eye. Pollino is a mountain where nature has had the upper hand over man.
