The town lies on a spur dominating the valley of the river Neto at about 326 meters above sea level. The castle, overlooks the landscape which ranges from the mountains of the Sila to the Ionian Sea and dominates the town. The district “Greece” in the east, untouched by town-planning and from where extends the view of the Marquis it’s a proof of the Byzantine domination. Adjacent to the ward is the Baptistery, which is accessed by a Cathedral side-door, the oldest Byzantine monument of Calabria.
