Cropani is a town in the province of Catanzaro located 10 km from the sea and 13 km from Sila. The two villages: Cropani Marina and Cuturella di Cropani, are part of the municipal territory. A legend tells that the relics of Mark the Evangelist to Venice, carried by a ship, were stolen by Venetian sailors in Alexandria in Egypt. The ship found refuge on the coasts of Cropani. The captain donated to the city a relic, as a sign of gratitude. It is still stored in a Romanesque cathedral.
