Called the “Strait Scylla and Charybdis” since ancient times, the Messina Strait connects the Tyrrhenian Sea to the Ionian Sea, splitting the two cities of Messina and Reggio Calabria. It can be figuratively represented as a funnel with its lesser section towards north, and joining Cape Peloro (Sicily) – The Horse Tower (Calabria).
