At the end of April, filming will begin on Sandokan, an international event series produced by Lux Vide, a Fremantle Group company, in collaboration with Rai Fiction. The series, an adaptation of the historical saga written by Emilio Salgari, will star Can Yaman in the title role.

Filming will also take place in picturesque Calabria, where the construction of the British colony of Labuan in the industrial area of Lamezia Terme has recently begun, and which will serve as the setting for part of the filming.

Lux “lands” for the first time in this region, with the support of the Film Commission and the Region of Calabria, which were crucial partners in the operation.

Luca Bernabei, Managing Director of Lux Vide, said: “Sandokan is a great entertainment project that will make viewers dream by taking them to faraway and uncontaminated worlds, gathering the whole family in front of the TV! The series has gone through a long development process that has allowed us to adapt the iconic Sandokan saga into an international TV series with a strongly contemporary approach”.

Maria Pia Ammirati, director of Rai Fiction, declares: «Sandokan is back! The joy of the announcement of the start of filming joins that of the return of an extraordinary title in Rai’s history in a totally renewed version. A great event that will light up the next public service season».

Thus Luciano Vigna, Director General of Calabria Film Commission. “This is an important project that the Fondazione Film Commission has decided to develop, both from an industrial and promotional point of view, with a first-rate partner in the audiovisual sector. With the Lux backlot that will host the sets of the prestigious series, the first phase of construction of the film studios in the former Sir industrial area of Lamezia Terme is inaugurated. In parallel, the construction of the studios and post-production studios has begun in these days. The filming of the series will also involve other locations in the region, along the coasts and in inland areas, so as to allow a wider promotion of the image and landscape of our beautiful Calabria”.
